Skin Rejuvenating Overview

Do you have acne scars, sun spots, uneven skin tone, dull skin, or wrinkles? Perhaps you’ve already tried numerous over-the-counter products without seeing results. It’s time for a new approach to rejuvenating your skin. Working with a doctor who has experience with a variety of skin management techniques can make all the difference.

Treatments We Offer

A number of skin rejuvenating and resurfacing treatments can eliminate or soften skin imperfections and help you achieve a fresh look. These treatments may also be prescribed in conjunction with a cosmetic procedure, such as a facelift or a chemical peel.

Dermabrasion is a skin resurfacing technique that can remove contour irregularities and provide a smoother skin surface. Typically applied to the facial skin, dermabrasion can help reduce the appearance of acne scars, skin growths, tattoos, deep wrinkles, and other skin texture problems. During dermabrasion, your plastic surgeon uses a special abrasion device to carefully scrape away the outer skin layer, revealing new, smoother skin beneath.

Glycolic acid peel uses a cream made from glycolic acids (sometimes called fruity acids) that is blended into facial preparations to eliminate rough or dry surface skin. The time it takes to see results depends on the degree of pigmentation and individual circumstances. Some patients see results quickly—in as little as six weeks.

Retin-A® (tretinoin) uses a vitamin A-enriched cream that treats fine wrinkles and blotches caused by sun damage by improving the texture and tone of your skin. With Retin-A treatment, you may notice a rosy glow during the beginning months of use, followed by the disappearance of fine lines, shrinking of large pores, and fading of age spots after about six months.

Skin Care Products

Medical-grade cosmeceuticals can help you maintain and enhance your natural appearance. We offer products for daily use, post-treatment skin care, eyelash enhancement, and more. Ask your plastic surgeon for more information about the following products:

  • Latisse®eyelash solution is the only medication available that can produce longer, thicker, and darker eyelashes in just weeks. While over-the-counter products can moisturize or condition the lashes, Latisse actually makes them grow. Bimatoprost, the active ingredient in Latisse, produces this effect by keeping the eyelashes in a perpetual growth phase. If you stop using Latisse, your eyelashes return to normal.
  • Obagi®skin care products are some of the most effective anti-aging products available for home use. Designed to help manage and treat the visible skin conditions in adults, Obagi products can help you reduce problems like rosacea, acne, wrinkles, hyper-pigmentation, and more.
  • PCA Skin®is a provider of scientifically researched skin-care regimens. Since the early 1990s, PCA has been offering effective skin-care solutions for men and women who want products without harsh additives or synthetic fragrances. PCA products contain proven ingredients like alpha hydroxy acids, antioxidants, hydroquinone, peptides, and benzoyl peroxide. PCA Skin products available include:
    • Collagen enhancing cream
    • Hyaluronic restoration
    • Depigmentation products
    • Sunscreen/moisturizers
  • Silicone scar gels and sheets are used in scar treatment, helping prevent or manage the formation of keloid and hypertrophic scars.

Frequently Asked Questions

The costs for skin-rejuvenating treatments will vary based on your specific needs. Most insurance plans do not cover cosmetic procedures. When you come in for your consultation visit, we’ll be better able to discuss fees in detail with you. Our staff will also review the financing options available.

Your doctor may prescribe medication to relieve discomfort after dermabrasion and recommend an ointment to apply after surgery. Be sure to follow your doctor’s instructions carefully to ensure proper healing.

Both Retin-A and glycolic acid treatments thin out the skin’s outer layer, so you will need to consistently use a sunscreen to protect your skin. You may also need to stop using certain products or cosmetics on your face.
